Our Chung-Ang University Department of Economics was the first university economics department established in Korea in September 1945. In 2011, the Seoul and Anseong campuses were integrated, and the Seoul Department of Economics, Anseong Department of Economics, and the Department of Industrial Economics became one family. Now, the Chung-Ang University Department of Economics has 21 full-time faculty members, approximately 700 undergraduate students, and approximately 50 master’s and doctoral students, and is growing into an economics education program that fosters talents who are competitive not only in Korea but also on the global stage.

Recently, we have been making steady progress. The graduate program of the Department of Economics at Chung-Ang University in 2024 was selected as the Ministry of Education’s BK21 project team.

In Seoul, only four economics graduate programs are participating in the BK21 project: our Chung-Ang University, Seoul National University, Yonsei University, and Sungkyunkwan University. Since 2023, the Chung-Ang University Economic Research Institute has been selected for the Korea Series Foundation support project and is operating the Private Education Policy Research Center to support the Ministry of Education’s establishment of private education response policies.

The Economic Research Institute continues to publish the Journal of Economic Development, an international academic journal founded in 1974, and continues to maintain its reputation in the international academic community. Students who earned a Ph.D. in economics from Chung-Ang University are active as professors at domestic and international universities and research fellows at major research institutes. Of course, graduates of the Department of Economics are also growing into talents who will lead the future of the Korean economy by entering major domestic and international companies and public institutions or starting their own businesses.

We have published a new newsletter for the Department of Economics to share our efforts to continue the brilliant tradition created by our alumni. We also wanted to share the good news and warm words of our alumni with our juniors.

We ask for your continued interest, encouragement, and participation.
